Mike & The Ravens – Pretty Polly

The origin of our favourites Them Bird Things is in the songs of American rock and rollers Mike Brassard and Steve Blodgett, who had their heyday as Mike & The Ravens in the pre-Beatles era. Even though, Mike and Steve never stopped writing songs, they only recorded their first full-length in 2007 when Mike & The Ravens reformed under the supervision of Helsinki-based producer Will Shade. On 15 June, Mike & The Ravens are releasing their third, and possibly last, album From Pillar to Post, a non-stop collection of in-your-face garage rock tunes that feature Them Bird Things’ singer Salla Day on several tracks. Listen to the first single off the album, a rocking version of the traditional English folk murder ballad Pretty Polly.

NT’s White Trash – Whistle

Eighteen months ago, producer, guitar player and singer Nick Triani put together a new band with the aim of making some month. In May NT’s White Trash publish their debut album Mourning Becomes Electric, but you can hear the first single after the break. This song is a smooth exception on a album that promises some edgier sounds. Whistle is a catchy two and a half minute guitar pop song, with an uplifting… well, whistling. The most recognizable Brit of Finnish indie is joined by Janne Lehtinen (Mummypowder), Heikki Tikka (Kauko Röyhkä) and Henrik Domingo (Kiki Pau).

Michael Monroe – ’78

In case you have not heard, former Hanoi Rocks singer Michael Monroe has a new album called Sensory Overdrive and it is, as the artwork explicitly suggets, a fine combination of punk and glam. After some ups and downs in the past with Hanoi Rocks 2.0, the singer carefully planned his comeback to the top. So far the result is excellent with a superb band (including Wildhearts’ Ginger and Sami Yaffa), an album recorded in LA with guests appearances by Lemmy and Lucinda Williams, and smoking live performances. But let’s his own words tell what sensory overdrive is about.

Praise the rock ‘n’ roll gods, a ‘sensory overdrive’ is here. In your face punked up rock ‘n’ bastard roll! The time has come for these boys to collect their dues. An album that has both instant appeal and depth, spirit and class. If this doesn’t save rock ‘n’ roll then we’re all fucked. As good as it gets people, as good as it gets!

Kim Curly Band – Passerby

Yesterday we heard that the Kim Curly Band song Passerby will be included in the upcoming Hollywood-movie The 5th Quarter starring Andie McDowell and Aidan Quinn. The film is a based on a inspirational true story about brotherly love, organ transplants and American football. Although, it might not be the most exciting film, it is great to see a Finnish indie band getting some international recognition. The song was featured on the MAP post last June and we also posted a video of it a few months ago. Let us repost the video again after the break. More

Home Junior – Simian

Sex sells, right? So why not to post your video on www.supersexywebcamchat.com? This is exactly what Home Junior did to promote the first second single off their debut third album. They shot a cheap and dirty music video and build a sexy (?) web around in full pink. But instead of watching some nice ladies or gents stripping, you will get to watch these youngsters playing fast and chorus-friendly Offspring-influenced punk pop. The song is catchy and has some good hooks to keep you wanting for the whole album, which arrives in stores next week. Those who do not want to be distracted with sexy web cams can continue reading to listen to the first single Simian.
