Them Bird Things – Underground

Them Bird Things

In the autumn of 2009, we were fans of Them Bird Things debut album to the point of almost being shameless groupies. Less than a year later, the Helsinki band has recorded a new batch of songs by unsung sixties heroes Steve Blodgett (on the photo) and Mike Brassard. The album, Wildlike Wonder, will be out in August, but Underground, the first single, can already be heard on the band’s MySpace and purchased on iTunes. The lineup was augmented by the arrival of two new members, bassist Jarmo Vähähaka and multi-instrumentalist Arttu Tolonen who will help to recreate the rock, folk and psychedelia mixture of Them Bird Things. Accompanying the single, there is a new video beautifully shot by Lawrence Dolkart. Enjoy the song and the cross-dressed band after the break. Watch those legs!

Rubik – Goji Berries

Rubik is slowly becoming the most international Finnish band, at least when it comes to the indie scene. Dada Bandits, their second album, was released in Finland a year ago already, but it keeps on being released in different countries while the band tours around the world and collects good reviews. Let us go back to Dada Bandits once again with a very special live version of the song Goji Berries filmed at the Botanical Garden in Oslo for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Watch it right after the break.

Delay Trees – About Brothers

Delay Trees and their Soft Construction EP were some of our favourites last year and you can expect to keep hearing about them in 2010 because these guys are lining up for a great year. Recently they got a record deal with Johanna Kustannus (home of Regina, Astrid Swan, Tuomari Nurmio and many others) and they are preparing a good bunch of live shows in Finland and in Europe to follow the album release later this year. But until the new songs are here, we can enjoy a semi-professional video for the song About Brothers, filmed by 17-year old student Markus Kontiainen (not commissioned by the band) during a recent gig with Kaskas in Lahti. It is remarkable what just one camera and a lot of talent can achieve. Simple beautiful. Click continue to watch. More

HIM – Heartkiller

The prince of love metal, Ville Valo, and his band HIM have a new album ready to be released in one week. We have not been able to listen to Screamworks: Love In Theory And Practice yet, but we are quiet intrigued about this musical essay on love that deals with solitude, death and happiness. Following the album release, the band will tour all around the world starting in Australia in a few weeks and continuing during the spring in Europe and the United States. In the mean time, you are just one click away of seeing the video for Heartkiller, the first single off the album. More

Epilä – Pyhäkoulu

Epilä

The Internet phobic band Epilä finally release last week their long-awaited debut ‘Avohakkuu’ and they also have a new video for the second single Pyhäkoulu. To our ears, the whole album might not be as strong as expected (yes, live they are better), but it does have a few good radio-friendly songs such as the one you are about to hear and see as soon as you click the continue button.
